TERRIFIED AT 2000 FEET, WE ASKED FANS TO TAKE THE LEAP

The Challenge

Universal Studios envisioned a groundbreaking promotion for their blockbuster hit, "Skyscraper." The objective was to plunge fans into the perilous world of the film, emulating the exhilaration and terror experienced by Dwayne Johnson's character. Created by Catalyst was tasked with crafting an immersive experience that would mimic a precarious rescue mission atop a burning skyscraper.

REALITY AND VIRTUAL WORLD ON A 1:1 SCALE

The Solution

To recreate this pulse-racing scene, Created by Catalyst developed a VR game where users navigate a narrow crane, 2000 feet above ground, with the daunting task of leaping to a blazing building, all while a helicopter looms nearby. We amplified the immersion by constructing a physical set matching the virtual environment. As participants donned the HTC Vive Pro headset, the lines between reality and fiction blurred. During its public debut, attendees eagerly lined up, some multiple times, to savour the electrifying experience, with many marking it as their unforgettable first venture into VR.

AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE FOR THE BRAVEST OF BRAVE

Objectives Achieved

ENGAGEMENT BEYOND CINEMA: By immersing them in a high-stakes rescue from a film scene, the VR endeavour offered fans a dynamic and novel way to connect with "Skyscraper."

FACING FEARS IN SAFE SURROUNDINGS: Participants confronted the terror of heights and danger, appreciating the film's essence without any real-world risk.

PIONEERING VR ENTERTAINMENT: Serving as an exemplar, the project showcased the potential of VR in revolutionising movie promotions and fan engagement.
