Deep Sea Mining

The deep-sea environment is complex and mysterious, making it a challenge to visually represent its intricate operations, especially for mining processes. Blue Nodules needed a detailed and high-quality promotional video for their new deep-sea Collector. The task was to showcase various stages of deep-sea mining, from the Collector's deployment to the extraction and processing of nodules. Moreover, they wanted the video to highlight the Collector's eco-friendly features and differentiate it from other mining practices.

Created by Catalyst developed a CG film in a real-time game engine, capturing each step of the mining process. This included deploying the Collector from the Processing Ship, collecting nodules, distinguishing nodules from sediment, and processing the nodules aboard the ship. Not only did the video cover the primary mining process, but it also emphasised the environmental benefits of Blue Nodules' technique. The film would utilise CAD models, high-quality visual assets, and textures to ensure a realistic representation, taking care to highlight the unique features of the new Collector.
